Admiration for a champion like Gigi Riva (recently passed away) and the innate passion for sculpture they led Daniele Pinna54 years old, from Cagliari but resident in Sestu, to pick up a log of wood and transform it into a representation of the unforgettable icon of Cagliari, Sardinia, the national team and world football. A statue emerged that represents an act of love towards a man, the expectations, the revenge and the popular feelings he embodied.

We wanted to interview this self-taught sculptor, capable of arousing a lot of curiosity in the island environment, to ask him what led him to create his workWhat represented the rossoblù striker and which memories awakens in him, since he has had the opportunity to meet him in person.

Pinna revealed to us gods juicy anecdotes which help to understand who the goalscorer really was who gave aincredible joy to the Sardinians, and not only, in the 70s. To appreciate them even more skills as a footballer but also as a man. To understand how, more than a sporting fact, Riva has become a social, cultural and popular phenomenon.

It was interesting, at the same time, to investigate how, sometimes, artistic flair and talent they reveal themselves and erupt almost naturally from the hands and souls of people That, without ever having attended art schools, academies or mastersthey can give shape to a material such as wood. In essence, to channel the strength of love for an art and the characters they value by revealing it uncommon abilities.
