An experiential visual arts laboratory is underway in Castelbuono

BCsicilia in collaboration with the Civic Museum of Castelbuono has started a project aimed at creating a psychological-experiential laboratory of visual arts through group activities. The path involves adult subjects through graphic, pictorial, photographic arts and other visual mediums, with the participation of museum, academic and school institutions.

The workshop and the psychological-experiential visual arts laboratory, curated by Giuseppe Rotondo, psychologist, psychotherapist and creator of the project, president of the BCsicilia headquarters in Castelbuono, will start on Friday 12 April 2024 at 4.30 pm at the Civic Museum. The presentation will be held with Alfonso Lo Cascio, regional president of BCsicilia and with Maria Rosa Sossai, participatory projects of the Civic Museum of Castelbuono.

The initiative is oriented towards the implementation of a “path connected to the psychology of art”, through the implementation of workshops for the creation of a “psychological-experiential laboratory” connected to the field of visual arts, with activities that will take place in groups. The program is developed by examining the impact that the beauty of a painting or sculpture generates on the psychological dimension of the observing subject (both on a conscience and emotional level), and the itinerary unfolds through the analysis of the psychological processes linked to subjective representation of the work of art, in relation to the internal sensations correlated to the perception of light, color and shape inherent in it. Participation in the laboratory translates into an introspective and internalization experience that puts the subject in a position to perceive the internal dynamics and the modifications of his own states of consciousness.

The intent is to draw a line of direction that translates into a “experiential and introspective path connected to the visual arts“, which gives space to the modulation of the conscience structure (modifications of the state of consciousness) validating the principle according to which “perception is diversified according to the conscience state, and therefore by modifying the conscience structure the perception that we have of the artwork”. The perceptive processes (attributable to the “conscious perception” modality) generate a reverberation on the thymic and emotional structure (emotional resonance) capable of affecting the psychological condition of the person (experiences, emotions, drives, passionate components). Therefore, according to the psychodynamic model, the perception of the work of art tends to elicit abreative mechanisms, taking on an evocative, cathartic and therapeutic character which is connected to the psychological dimension of the profound.

“The approach to the journey – they explain from BCSicilia – is fundamentally phenomenological and psychological-experiential, and the experience translates into an assumption of awareness of the intrapsychic dynamics that are generated when contemplating the work of art: processes of decoding and cognitive processing, mechanisms of emotional connotation connected to the perception of works of art; imaginative representation and visualization of shapes, colors, light: activation of proprioception, introspection and internalization skills; experience of artistic contemplation correlated to changes in the internal structure, with consequent influence on balance and psychological stability, without neglecting the assumption of awareness of the related psychotherapeutic effects”.

Three events are scheduled to be held in the Sala del Principe of the Civic Museum from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. Beyond April 12th the meetings will be held on Friday 10th May and Friday 7th June. The activity is free and is reserved for a maximum of 12 participants. For information and reservations: [email protected].
