Rome, the major problems of the Conca D’oro district

Conca D’oro is one of the many neighborhoods that make up the third largest municipality in Rome and is located in a crucial area as far as traffic is concerned. Among the various critical issues encountered by residents there are uncultivated green areas and weeds, small waste on the sidewalks and the age-old issue of the double queue in via di Conca D’oro.

Double row

For years now, residents have been reporting various violations of the highway code in via di Conca D’oro, which has recently also been the scene of road accidents with rollovers. The double row is most in the spotlight at any time of the day with peaks in the morning and late afternoon. “You have to slalom between cars that are prohibited from parking and you always risk invading the opposite lane”, complains Valentina, a resident of the area. “I can’t see pedestrians as too often double-parked cars block my view,” adds the resident. Well yes, the double row situation has now become a problem on this street and in addition to creating a danger for all road users, it slows down traffic.

Weeds and uncultivated areas

Among the other critical issues raised by residents in the Conca D’oro neighborhood are the uncultivated green areas and various weeds between the roadsides and gardens. Behind the Anna Magnani school, in via Val D’Ala, there is a small strip of land full of forasacchi. There are now many plants of this type, dangerous for animals, which have grown out of all proportion. “At this point it also becomes dangerous to mow as it would spread the ears everywhere,” says Roberta, who has been attentive to the issue for years. “We should intervene not only in time but also on a weekly basis in the spring period,” she concludes. Moving a little further, the situation does not change as, in via Dei Prati Fiscali, the traffic island is completely invaded by this grass.

Residents’ proposals

After collecting many testimonies from those who live in the neighborhood, some residents have put forward some proposals to improve these critical issues. As regards the double queue, the inhabitants ask for continuous checks by the Roma Capitale police. “It would be enough to place a policeman in the street in order to discourage this practice,” asks Lia, a resident of one of the buildings near the road. However, regarding the issue of uncultivated grass, many residents ask for continuous interventions in the spring period in order to avoid the growth of forasacco ears.
