After the time trial won by Pogacar in Perugia, the Giro moves from Umbria to Abruzzo (crossing into Lazio), in the very tough uphill finish of Prati di Tivo, 1st category GPM at 1450 meters above sea level. However, the 152 kilometers of the route do not allow for breaks, with tough climbs right from the start and many possibilities both for escapes from afar and for actions by the men in the rankings. The Giro is live on Eurosport, Sky channel 210

THE STORY OF THE SEVENTH STAGE

The Foligno-Perugia time trial shuffled the cards in the standings and allowed Pogacar to pull ahead of his main pursuers, Daniel Martinez and Geraint Thomas. The arrival of the peaks in the Apennines may contribute to new shocks: the Slovenian is in exceptional form and can already think of giving the almost definitive push to his opponents.

Uphill finish and three GPMs on the route

The finish line, afterwards 152 kilometersis located uphill to Prati di Tivo, 1450 meters high, Gran Sasso massif. An ascent that represents the second first category GPM of this edition of the pink race after the one to the Oropa Sanctuary, with an average gradient between 6 and 8%. The stage, however, will not only be challenging at the end, but from the beginning with the Second category GPM set at Forca Capistrello at kilometer 37. You will always pedal between 700 and 1000 meters above sea level, also arriving at Croce Abbio, 3rd category GPM. A large breakaway is likely during the day, with the men in the rankings likely to be content to enter the fray in the final climb. However, it cannot be ruled out that someone could immediately try to surprise, moving a race that already seems firmly in the hands of Pogacar. Who knows, however, if the UAE-Emirates captain himself doesn’t want to give yet another sign of his superiority, without waiting to be attacked to put on a show. There are also flying targets at Lioness (cyclamen knit stitches) ea Pietracamela (seconds bonus), with the InterGiro finish line placed at Capitignano (kilometer 104).
