The sixth stage of the tour speaks Spanish Tour: Pelayo Sanchez is good at resisting Julian Alaphilippe’s attacks and even more so to exploit the trail in the sprint with narrow ranks that rewards the runner of the Movistar, very good at seizing the moment and placing a not so obvious high note. The Australian Luke Plapp finishes in third placein fact almost giving up on tackling the sprint, while Andrea Piccolo comes fourth, leaving the group at the end, with the men in the ranking leaving it to be done while waiting for more challenging days, with the Tomorrow’s time trial from Foligno to Perugia first real test. The only flaw of the day was the fall of Caruso, out of the league table (almost 12 minutes behind).

Giro d’Italia, 6th stage:

The stage of the dirt roads it did not disappoint expectations. With an escape that started from afar which also had one of the protagonists Julian Alaphilippebeyond Luke Plapp, which for about thirty kilometers was also the virtual pink jersey (theUAE he let it happen). Then on the two dirt sections of Vidritta and Bagnaia the stage literally exploded: just Plapp he tried to escape from the group of fugitives, with Alaphilippe and Pelayo Sanchez good at getting back on his wheel.

The three they started to get along welllooking forward to anticipating the return of the group, which on the toughest sections also saw many luxury team members alternating (see Ganna and Milan) to shoot for their captains. Pogacar he checked without worry and let it happen, above all avoiding running into any mistakes (among others on the ground, but without consequences, Dani Martinez, Uijtdebroeks and O’Connorunlike the unfortunate one Caruso).

In the end the tear of Rapolano greenhouses it brings the group closer, but not enough: the sprint rewards Sanchezwhat a joke Alaphilippe that for half a wheel, with Plapp third e Small (leaving the group in the last 3 km) who closes at 24 seconds.

Stage 6, Torre del Lago Piccini-Rapolano Terme: report cards

  • SANCHEZ 9: first joy in a grand tour, and in front of a champion (maybe a little decadent, but still such) like Julian Alaphilippe. Who tries in every way to shake it off, without success. Well done to the Asturian in not getting caught up in the heat and not making any mistakes. Worthy victory.
  • ALAPHILIPPE 7.5: the ending is bitter, because on a finish line like that of Rapolano until a couple of years ago he would have won hands down. This time he has to bite the bullet, but he doesn’t have much to blame himself: he tried to break away from his breakaway companions on the climb, then his legs failed in the sprint.
  • PLAPP 7.5: he was the most combative of the day, even trying to go alone before Alpahilippe and Sanchez caught up with him after the first dirt track of the day. In the end he paid the price for his effort, but after having done his best.
  • BARDET 6.5: on the Serre di Rapolano climb he sets the pace in the group of the best, showing a decidedly captivating condition. Nice to see him like this again: maybe when the climbs arrive he will be able to put on a show and entertain.
  • TIBERI 6.5: for a boy who wants to grow, learning from the best, there is nothing better than being next to those who travel fast. It’s just a shame for Caruso’s fall which risks taking away a precious resource along the way.
  • POGACAR 6: he leaves it to his rivals, preferring to stay behind. Your mind is already racing towards tomorrow’s time trial: sometimes you need to act sparingly.

Giro d’Italia, the first time trial arrives: Ganna, but not only that

The moment of the first time trial of the Giro arrives: from Foligno to Perugiafor a total of 40 kilometres, there will be many pitfalls to overcome, starting from the wind (which could be a factor) passing through a decidedly challenging finish, with the last part of the route which will force the runners to climb up to the upper part of Perugia (difference in altitude of approximately 300 meters in the last 5 km). A stage that could also prove difficult for time trial specialists: Ganna is the logical favoritebut on such a rough track even one like Pogacar could (should) have his say, as well as Thomas (who also lost the Tour last year right in final part of the last time trialrandomly look at the hardest one) e Arensman.
