Censorship is only such if the victim has no power, otherwise it is a question of protest. Concita De Gregorio established the rule during the Thursday 9 May episode of È semper Cartabianca, on Rete 4, with the Repubblica editorialist who found firm opposition from the director of Il Giornale Alessandro Sallusti. We are talking, of course, about the transfeminist blitz at the General States of Birth in Rome which effectively prevented Minister Eugenia Roccella from participating in the conference to which she had been invited. The representative of Giorgia Meloni’s government was forced to abandon the event, but “it’s part of your job to deal with protests”, comments De Gregorio. “If at the first whistle or the first banner, someone who hasn’t happened to, leaves, it’s also a way to increase the controversy”, argues the journalist who summarizes: “If you do that job there”, i.e. the minister, “you have to be able to face and manage a protest that seems peaceful and welcome on the part of the students”.
The word passes to Sallusti who comments on what he has just heard: “Concita De Gregorio told us that the President of the Republic doesn’t understand a thing”, attacks the director of the Giornale recalling the solidarity phone call that Sergio Mattarella made to Roccella. The head of state made a synthesis between censorship and protest and said that it is a question of incivility, so let’s not play with words”, states Sallusti. In short, “we have arrived at the paradox that the alleged censors, that is, this government, cannot speak – Sallusti sums up – while the alleged victims of censorship speak from morning to night on all the talk shows. It seems like a strange paradox to me”, concludes the journalist.
