“The new governance of Acque del Sud Spa, a company established following the suppression of the Agency for the Development of Irrigation and Land Transformation in Puglia, Lucania and Irpinia (EIPLI), raises serious questions regarding adequate representation of the province of Avellino. The new company maintained the offices in Bari and Potenza, while it effectively abolished the Avellino office in via Tagliamento 112. A wrong choice which does not guarantee the Irpinia area a leading role in the new organizational structure, also in light of the importance of its water resources and the notable ecological, economic and social consequences resulting from the corporate reorganization in the province of Avellino. Observations also shared by the president of the Monti Picentini Regional Park Authority. It is worth remembering that Acque del Sud Spa, whose share capital can be sold up to 30% to private companies to be identified through a public tender, manages the hydraulic works relating to interregional basins, including reservoirs and artificial lakes, in the province of Avellino and in the Puglia and Basilicata regions. It also manages water resources within the Great Adduction system: dozens of springs, with a flow rate exceeding 14 thousand liters per second, which feed the networks of Puglia and Basilicata as well as Campania and controls dams present in the Irpinia area which they contain over 65 million cubic meters of water”.

“For these reasons I presented a question to ask the council to intervene with the presidency of Acque del Sud Spa and the Ministry of Agriculture to restore the Avellino headquarters of the former EIPLI and to ensure that our province is home to the most important hydrographic basin of the South, an adequate role in the governance of Acque del Sud Spa, also in order to strengthen public representation in consideration of the presence, in the corporate structure, of an important private component”.
