The maternal names on the shirts to celebrate “Mother’s Day”: on the occasion of Milan-Cagliari – anticipation of the 36th day of the Serie A championship scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, at 8.45pm – the teams will play with special match uniforms: instead take the field with the one usually worn, the players will carry their maternal surname on their shoulders.

The two clubs, we read in a note from the rossoblù club, «thus want to promote what was established by the Constitutional Court and therefore by an Italian law of 1 June 2022: both parents must be able to share the choice of their children’s surname, a principle which constitutes a founding element of the person’s identity”.

To support the initiative, those called up for the match and the lineups will be announced with the double surname (maternal/paternal) of the players.

Lecce, Genoa, Hellas Verona, Turin and Udinese also joined the initiative. While the remaining 13 companies did not participate given the technical impossibility of creating the special shirts in a limited time frame.
