The boys of Mussomeli’s “GBHoggi” participate in the “See you in court” project – Il Fatto Nisseno

MUSSOMELI – The IIS “GB Hoggi, directed by Prof. M.Rita Cumella, has joined the project promoted by the Provincial School Office in collaboration with the Juvenile Court of Caltanissetta “See you in court” in the field of Education civics and orientation. On Tuesday the students represented in the courtrooms of the Juvenile Court of Caltanissetta, in the presence of the President Dr. Umberto Zingales and the Public Prosecutor at the Juvenile Tribunal Dr. Rocco Cosentino as well as USP representatives, Dr. Alessandra Belvedere and prof. Ettore Di Vita, two simulations of trial cases whose scripts were developed by the boys themselves. The students of the IV A AFM, supported throughout the course by the teachers, professors Giovanna Milazzo, M.Assunta Martorana and Concetta Alaimo, represented, in the various roles of judge, prosecutor, offended party, defendants and witnesses, the simulation of the trial of a crime concerning an unfortunately very current issue, namely gender violence. We often hear about toxic relationships, which are difficult to get out of, and which then have tragic endings. Until we have the courage to report, it will be difficult to make things change. The teamwork and collaboration experienced by the children highlighted their trust in justice, with the awareness that talking, sharing, testifying is the only way to face the fear of change. Of course, this courage must be supported by legal institutions and certainly by human solidarity. This experience offered the opportunity to experience an authentic path of growth and acquisition of civic and citizenship skills, which helped to understand how the concept of citizenship denotes both belonging to a community, political or social, and a set of rights and duties as fundamental prerequisites in promoting values such as commitment, respect, education for coexistence. The students of the IV A tourism course, supported by the teachers, professors Rosa Mendola, Maria Diliberto and Giovanna Di Francesco, instead simulated a hearing in the council chamber which highlights the attention of the State in the process of growth of young citizens through a intervention that also involves parents and social structures present at a local level. In developing the script, the children had the opportunity to appreciate and find the importance of legal rules, not rigid impositions written in codes, but very useful for solving all daily problems, taking into account the different needs, including moral ones and psycho-physical growth. , of each one. They also wanted to highlight the importance of school attendance which leads to growth, not only in training, in continuous relationships with peers and in knowing how to face with determination the hardships and obstacles that may arise in everyone’s life. The students thanked for the opportunity offered, asking for understanding for any imperfections, receiving compliments from the magistrates present and the representatives of the Provincial Education Office who brought greetings from Dr. Salvatore Benfante Picogna..
