Among the seven people arrested by the Carabinieri, on the recommendation of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, on charges of an alleged vote swap in the 2023 elections in Cercola, there is also a former candidate for the Portici municipal elections in 2022. She is Giusy De Micco , 30 years old, who – as confirmed by portal of the Municipality of Portici – she ran with the Portici Libera list (list supporting mayor Vincenzo Cuomo) and managed to obtain 35 preferences. It should be noted that Mayor Cuomo is not involved in the investigation.

Exchange vote, former candidate for Portici arrested

The soldiers of Torre del Greco carried out the arrests last Monday between the neighborhoods of the eastern area of ​​Ponticelli-Barra-San Giovanni a Teduccio and the nearby municipality of Cercola. The precautionary custody order was issued by the investigating judge of the Naples court, at the request of the Anti-Mafia, against 7 people, including six arrested in prison and one under house arrest.

The investigation started by the Local Police of Cercola has highlighted an alleged vote exchange between politics and the Camorra, in addition to the hypotheses of the crime of criminal association aimed at electoral corruption and of possession and carrying of weapons in public places, with the aggravating circumstance of the mafia method and the aim of facilitating the reference clans, the Fusco-Ponticelli and the De Micco-De Martino hegemons in East Naples (Ponticelli, Barra, San Giovanni a Teduccio).

The names of the seven suspects

Antonietta Ponticelli, who at the time appeared in Europa Verde, daughter of life prisoner Gianfranco Ponticelli, was registered in the register of suspects and apparently attracted the attention of the police. Then Sabino De Micco, councilor of the VI municipality of Naples elected with Maresca and today with Fratelli d’Italia; Giuseppina De Micco, Salvatore Capasso, Pasquale De Micco, Giovanni De Micco (house arrest) and Giusy De Micco, the latter accused of having paid 1,800 euros for a package of around sixty votes. For voting, however, voters were paid the sum of 30 euros in the first round and 20 euros in the run-off.
