L’AQUILA – The historic Omega clock installed under the arcades of Corso Vittorio Emanuele is threatened and soiled by pigeons on a daily basis, as reported by some residents of L’Aquila who also propose simple remedies to protect it after the expert restoration work financed entirely by the Rotary Club of L’Aquila.

The repair of the large clock (in the photo provided by G. Cocciolone) which became one of the symbols of the 2009 earthquake, with the hands stopped at 3.32 o’clock, was carried out by the watchmaker from L’Aquila Loreto Cordeschi.

“Nothing against those birds” say the residents, “but it would be enough to install special racks or anti-pigeon deterrents, or “pins” which can be made of plastic or aluminium, tools which, for example, in condominiums give good results”.

“The Omega clock, installed on the wall of what was once the prestigious jewelry store Cardilli, it is a piece of history of our city, the hands that today return to mark the passage of time are the emblem of a community that has managed to restart after a period of suffering, a point of reference for many people of L’Aquila” said the mayor of L’Aquila, Pierluigi Biondi during the watch return ceremony.
