At the end of the salvation obtained in Series D from his Sweet Milk in the playout against New Florida (click here to relive the 3-2 of the Sassari team with the complete match report), the owner of the team led by Mister Antonio Marinu commented on the finish line and the entire season of the Biancocelesti on our microphones Roberto Fresu. Below are his words.
On the finish line of salvation
“This salvation means a lot, especially after a difficult season. And to say that we started well in the championship and then in the second part of the season we didn’t turn out as we had hoped. We went all the way with these extra times in the playouts and played against a team like New Florida that I feared and who proved to be a fearsome and strong squad. I mostly saw the ghosts when we went down 2-0, as had already happened against New Florida a few weeks ago in the regular championship before the comeback. But I have to be honest, I have never lost faith in these guys and today I decided to experience the match on the bench to help out as much as possible. In the end we were rewarded, we remain in Serie D and it wasn’t easy. I have to thank the managers who were close to us and all the sponsors. Now let’s reset, rest and see how to plan the next championship. It was important that Sassari kept a team in Serie D given that we have Torres in Serie C. And I wish the rossoblù all the best for the playoffs. Sassari deserves football that counts. Torres is making us dream and today we gave ourselves the dream of remaining in Serie D. It wasn’t a given, I had already suffered defeat in a playout against Selargius as president and I know how complicated it is to win these matches. I saw a lot of ghosts, but in the end it went well.”

“In the last five weeks everything has been very hectic, ever since we decided to sack Giorico who, above all, I consider to be a great coach and one of the best prepared we have in Sardinia. The choice was made to shake up the locker room and in some moments a club must be good at making strong choices, choices that predict the future trend in some way. Sacking a manager is never good, in fact it is the last choice you would want to make as a club. In the end we opted for an internal solution like Marinu to work on the head of the group. And it is no coincidence that we brought home three draws, two victories and only one defeat. This victory over New Florida will remain the most beautiful and passionate victory, I even got sent off at the end but that’s okay in these situations. In the end we are happy with the path and now we will see where to start again, we have many internal solutions and we will evaluate”.

“How will I celebrate? After ten years of presidency I’m tired I admit it, but tonight I will celebrate with all the kids because they deserve it. How will we plan? Soon, and we will try to make many fewer mistakes than in the past. We will change our mentality and return to that spirit of neighborhood society as Latte Dolce has always been. We must bring out our young people, as we have always done in the past. We have many strong young players and now the time has come to believe in our kids.”
Marinu’s future
“Who will be the new sporting director? It’s still early to make this type of decision, but in the end what matters in football is knowledge. This time I will also get involved personally. Go ahead with Marinu on the bench? We will evaluate, it is still early as mentioned.”
