The entrepreneur Gianpietro Benedetti has died. Born in 1942, he was at the helm, as president, of one of the top companies in Friuli Venezia Giulia, or rather of a Group, the Danieli Group, based in Buttrio, among the world leaders in the design and construction of steel plants and among the first three European steel producers, which alone is worth 40% of the exports of the province of Udine and 20% of the regional exports.

And it is precisely in Danieli that a very young Gianpietro Benedetti made his debut in the world of work as a technical designer in ’61. «And on the first day – he said on the occasion of the presentation of an award for 60 years of seniority – I was sent home because I hadn’t brought my compasses with me».

TO KNOW MORE:

He spent a few years at the drawing board then became project manager of small plants, then volunteered to start up plants with unsolved problems around the world for about 5 years, from Brescia to South Africa, from Greece to Singapore, from Malaysia to Israel and In the USA.

An “in the field” training, as we would define it today, and a growing experience that will lead him, at 30 years old, to become manager of the calibration rolling technology office for the definition of plant layouts. And, again, in ’76 he became technical sales manager of the sales office to which, in ’80, he added the technical direction which also included the research center, therefore project management.

Advancements that follow one another at a time when Danieli is betting on a crucial transformation: from a manufacturer of machinery for the steel industry to a supplier of turnkey systems.

In 1986, in the era of Cecilia Danieli who became president and CEO, Benedetti was appointed general manager of the Group. Together, following a strategic plan, they managed to bring the company out of the crisis that had hit the steel sector.

After the death of Cecilia Danieli, Benedetti became president and CEO in 2003, a position, that of CEO, which he left in 2018 to Giacomo Mareschi Danieli, Cecilia’s son.

Numerous awards: he has been a Cavaliere del Lavoro since 2006 and has been awarded two degrees and an honorary MBA diploma.
