GENOA – More than one million visitors, 2,300 initiatives and events dedicated to books and reading, a book presented every three days, 140 offices involved throughout the municipal territoryfor a widespread project in libraries and neighborhoods, with 190 collaborations activated with the city network, also involving museums, theaters and the Rolli palaces. These are the numbers of Genoa, the Italian book capital of 2023. Genoa hosted the 2006 Nobel Prize winner for literature, the Turkish writer Orhan Pamukand the Pulitzer Prize in 2000, the American writer and journalist Juhmpa Lahirigodmother of the project, and, among the prologue events to the program, last April, the writer Eshkol Nevo. Many literary anniversaries who have been remembered: from the 150th anniversary of the death of Alessandro Manzoni to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Nobel Prize-winning Polish poet Wislawa Szymborska – to whom the exhibition at Villa Croce curated by Sergio Maifredi “Wislawa Szymborska the joy of writing” was dedicated. But then also many exhibitions like “Library at Night” at Palazzo Lomellino or the autumn edition of Rolli Days.

The leader of the project was Ducal Palacewhich promoted several cycles of meetings and “unfolded” exhibitions, together with the Municipality of Genoa.
