Campi Reali Cantù closes 2025 with a victory against league leaders Tinet Prata from Pordenone. The three points do not arrive, but two do arrive in the head-to-tail battle between the first and last in the standings. The Canturini did well to resist the impetus of their opponents in the fifth set, after a quarter lost with a gap of 8 points.

Coach Alessio Zingoni fields Federico Bonacchi as setter, Gaetano Penna as opposite, Luka Tadic and Matteo Meschiari as spikers, Nicola Candeli and Gabriele Maletto as central defenders, and Luca Butti as libero. Coach Mario Di Pietro responds with Alessio Alberini in the control room, Kristian Gamba opposite, Jernej Terpin and Marcin Ernastowicz in the band, Simone Scopelliti and Nicolò Katalan in the center, and Alberto Benedicenti libero.

The start of the first set is balanced up to 8, then Gamba sends Tinet forward, and Coach Zingoni stops the game (9-12). Penna brings his team back (11-13), but Prata di Pordenone relaunches the action (12-15). Campi Reali fights for every ball, gets back to -1 with a block from Maletto on Ernastowicz (17-18), but fails to catch up with their opponents. Terpin closes for his team (21-25).

At the beginning of the second set Gamba takes the first double external advantage (4-6), Tadic’s attacking error sends the guests up by 3 (6-9). Campi Reali fight ball after ball, overtake with Meschiari, and Coach Di Pietro stops everything (11-10). Cantù doesn’t lose the rhythm, extends further, and the Tinet coach calls his second time-out (14-10). Two errors in attack by Gamba send the Canturini to +5 (16-11, break of 9-1). Terpin keeps his team afloat, and an invasion by Candeli convinces Coach Zingoni to stop the game (20-17). Prata di Pordenone continues to beat, draws at 21, and Coach Zingnoni wants to talk about it. Upon returning to the field, Ernastowicz attacks out, is blocked by Maletto, and the score is tied (25-23).

At the beginning of the third set Candeli blocks Katalan and wins the first double advantage for his team (7-5). Penna sets up the internal +3 attack (10-7), but an ace (the first of the match) from Katalan brings Tinet back down (10-9). Terpin turns the score around (11-12), and an attacking infringement by Meschiari convinces Coach Zingoni to stop everything (12-14). This shakes Campi Reali, who overtakes with a Candeli wall, and Coach Di Pietro wants to talk about it (17-16). Cantù continues to hammer, and an invasion of the guest’s wall convinces Coach Di Pietro to call his second time-out (20-17). An ace from Terpin reopens the games (23-21), Gamba blocks Tadic (24-23), and Coach Zingoni stops the game. Ernastowicz sends everything to the advantages. Two consecutive points from Tadic close the run (27-25).

At the beginning of the fourth set Terpin sends his team ahead (0-2), Katalan blocks Penna for the +3 outside, and Coach Zingoni wants to talk about it (4-7). This doesn’t shake Campi Reali, who makes a few too many mistakes and allows Tinet to extend (7-11, 8-14, Coach Zingoni time-out). Prata di Pordenone’s march continues (11-19, 13-21), and Terpin sends the match to a tie-break (17-25).

In the fifth set Tadic blocks Gamba for the first internal advantage (2-1), but Ernastowicz puts the ball back in Tinet’s hands (4-5). An ace from Meschiari sends the teams to a change of court (8-7). Terpin attacks out, and Coach Di Pietro stops everything (10-8). An ace from Terpin brings the score back to parity at 11, Katalan blocks Penna and wins the first match point for his team (13-14). Gamba hits it into the net and we go to the advantage. Maletto blocks Terpin, and an ace from Meschiari confirmed on the pitch by the video check starts the Cantù party (17-15).

These are Coach Alessio Zingoni’s words at the end of the match: “These are two very important points, especially because the league table is moving, and it’s right that we move with it. I want to congratulate the boys because they’ve had a tough and long week, and they took this victory. This gives us even more morale because next week we have an important challenge in Macerata, and we’ll be thinking about it from tomorrow morning. But tonight we’re celebrating because winning with the first team is never easy, and we did it with important technical values.”
