Yuri Romanò best scorer in the Russian championship! Pokerissimo of Fakel and the market lights up again…

Il Fakel Novy Urengoy had started the season in a decidedly incomplete way: two victories and eight defeats in the first ten days of the Super League (the top Russian men’s volleyball championship), complete with penultimate place in the standings and many alarm bells within a very ambitious team. In the last three weeks, however, coach Roman Empolov’s boys have been unleashed and they scored five consecutive successes!

In order: 3-1 at Orenburg (7 December), 3-1 at Lokomotiv Novosibirsk (10 December), 3-1 in front of their home fans against Zenit St. Petersburg (14 December), 3-2 at home at Kemovo (19 December) and 3-1 at home against MGTU Moscow (27 December). Fakel thus rose to ninth place with 21 points and has returned to the fray to access the playoffs: the top four will qualify directly for the quarter-finals, while the teams between fifth and 12th place will play a preliminary round.

The first round has thus ended and we will return to the field on 4 December for the away match against Dinamo-Lo. Long summary necessary to better frame the moment that Yuri Romanò is experiencingthe best opposite of the last World Cup won with Italy. The striker from Brianza has always stood out on an individual level even when the team was in the doldrums of the tournament and has further raised the bar in the last month, breaking the 300 point barrier and becoming the overall best scorer in the Super League with 320 points under his belt.

In his first season in Russia after leaving Piacenza, Yuri Romanò reaffirmed his talent (always making an impact in the national team) and his volleyball market would have moved. As reported by the Gazzetta dello SportCivitanova, Modena and Milan would have activated the 28-year-old left-handed player: the Milanese would have to replace the Belgian Ferre Reggers (now ready to move to Perugia), the Cucineri could include him in the promising trident with the Nikolov brothers, the Canaries are looking for a man with an impact to relaunch their ambitions.
