“Sulla Cresta dell’Onda” continues today, the new column written directly by Onda Gialloblù with the aim of leading you inside the new organized Modena Volley fan base.
Yellow alert between growth and buses to Piacenza
We left off celebrating the beautiful victory against Civitanova and we find ourselves, in the midst of the Christmas holidays (by the way, best wishes to everyone), celebrating not one, not two, but three further successes which contribute to a still open series of 4 consecutive victories. Fourth place in the standings with just 4 points behind the top of the ranking! In our house, but in our opinion also in your area, a lot of stuff is said!
This change of pace compared to a more up-and-down start to the season lends itself to different interpretations. The most romantic is that the boys wanted to create a wonderful Christmas present for us fans, while another hypothesis is that they wanted to make our task easier in igniting and stimulating the yellow and blue support. As we recalled in a previous article, jumping on the winning bandwagon is a very popular sport even in these latitudes and when the team plays, wins and convinces it becomes much easier to attract spectators and involve them in our activities.
Thinking in more serious terms, we lean towards a further explanation: the team is progressing, growing, learning from the mistakes made in the first games and above all it is increasing its confidence and awareness in its own abilities. Try to take a look at the fundamentals of the serve: we have gone from a sea of errors to a tsunami of aces peaks in the last 2 home matches with Cisterna and Cuneo where the boys managed 18 and 12 winning serves respectively.
After having fulfilled the role of good journalists, reporting the news of the latest competitive events, we change “t-shirts” and like Charon, we ferry you into the universe of our organized fans. From this point of view too, the last two weeks have been intense and full of emotions of all kinds.
First of all, there was the Christmas dinner organized together with Carrozze Sotto Rete, enlivened by the presence of the whole team, the coach and the sports director. A very well attended evening (170 people present) and, according to many, successful. Only a few days after the away match in Verona, auspicious not only for the splendid victory but also for the large, colorful and above all noisy presence of us Modena fans. On that occasion, the flags that the fans decided to purchase to increase their visibility made their debut away from the PalaPanini. Those flags were also useful for another reason: so excited by such an important challenge we brought megaphones, flags, banners, wigs, drums to the Scaligera land but we completely forgot the sticks!!!!!! From the series, we are really blown away!!!!
Necessity, however, is the sharpest ingenuity… A couple of flag poles were sacrificed on the altar of cheering and reduced into smaller pieces which, when suitably annoyed, became the rather improvised drumsticks!!! Given the outcome of the meeting, more than one of us had the doubt of “planning” to forget the chopsticks for the next trips too. Have you ever seen…
We will also remember the Verona trip pleasantly for two other aspects. First of all, our world champion Luca Porro wanted to give us fans (thank you very much Luca) the MVP award consisting of a Magnum bottle of Prosecco Millesimato, the fate of which we will tell you in a moment. And then at the end of the match, the normal fans leave the stadium and get into the car to go home, but we, as you may have understood, have little that is normal and so what do you think we did?
Faithful to one of the most famous Modena cheer chants (“Leave me here, an vôi menga andér a ca’”), we thought about reaching the parking lot, but not that of our cars, but that of the players’ bus which we waited, greeted and “stalkered” as we usually do. And also in this case, the managers and the boys were very nice by giving us some of the pizzas left over from their dinner.
The following days until Boxing Day were completely absorbed by the creation of the choreography used during the match against Cuneo. This is a very important and significant step for a new fan base like ours, being the first ever made by Onda Gialloblu. We may be biased, but we think it turned out very well and for this we have to thank above all the “young” component of our group: first of all Isha and Thomas, among other things also two of our very strong drummers, but also Sofia and Agnese. And obviously all those of us “differently” young people who helped them complete the work. Here too we draw a veil over all the mishaps that occurred (one above all the explosion of a spray can): all’s well that ends well.
Do you still remember the bottle of Prosecco, Luca’s MVP award in Verona? In the end we opened it, but on a very special occasion. Again for the “I’m not thinking about going home” series, at the end of the match against Cuneo, some of us fans found ourselves eating a pizza at one of the restaurants sponsoring Modena Volley. Some notes: the number of us can be quantified as almost sixty people; almost all the players and their relatives were present in the same venue; that day was Filippo “Penny” Federici’s birthday. He, the birthday boy, then had the task of “pulling” the neck of the Magnum bottle of Prosecco and filling the glasses of us fans and his teammates.
Before saying goodbye, we want to give you another gem which, for us, represents another first time and which we won’t hide from you, it truly fills us with joy. To communicate it to you, we would have thought of using a famous incipit: “I announce to you great joy”, but in our case, the phrase does not end with “We have a Pope”, but with “We have Pullman”!!!!
You understood correctly: for the first time since the birth of Onda Gialloblu, we managed to organize a trip (that of the Italian Cup in Piacenza) by bus. And what a coach: the biggest one for 60! This is a great little achievement for us who were used to organizing cars to follow the team across Italy. Now that we’ve broken the ice, let’s hope we never stop! But for this, we need you, each of you to make the Wave grow even more…. Help us become a tsunami. And don’t worry: the color of the alert will always remain yellow because it’s the only color we like!
We conclude by wishing you a spectacular 2026 full of health, money and serenity but in our area there are rumors that all this could happen if and only if you will always come to the stadium and away games with us with a yellow shirt, scarf and loud voice!
