If you’re looking for titles capable of keeping you up late at night, here are six crime series not to be missed, different from each other but united by one thing: they know how to capture attention.

Monsters

True crime anthology series che season after season enters the minds of some of the most notorious criminals in history. We start with Jeffrey Dahmer, told not only through his crimes but also by showing the flaws in the system that allowed him to act for years. The following seasons completely change the scenario, moving from the case of the Menéndez brothers to Ed Gein, figure which inspired cinematic horror. The cast varies with each chapter and the episodes are designed as real self-contained stories, intense and disturbing at the right point.

The Monster

A miniseries that brings to the screen one of the darkest crime cases in Italy: the Monster of Florence. The narrative follows the investigations between 1968 and the 1980s, showing wrong leads, disturbing suspicions and a constant climate of fear. The tone is sober and almost documentary-like, with an ensemble cast playing magistrates, suspects and investigators. Few episodes, but dense, ideal for those who love realistic and deeply Italian crime.

The Sinner

The question here is not “who it was?”, ma “Why did he do it?”. Each season follows a different case investigated by detective Harry Ambrose, played by an intense Bill Pullman. From sudden crimes to closed communities and repressed traumas, the series delves into the psyche of the guilty. The cast changes with each chapter (with faces like Jessica Biel and Matt Bomer) and the episodes always maintain a strong psychological edge.

Quicksand

A Swedish series powerful and painful which revolves around a school shooting. At the center is Maja, a girl accused of complicity in the massacre. Between courtroom and flashback, lThe story reconstructs a toxic relationship and a youthful discomfort ignored by adults. The young cast is credible and intense, and the few episodes make for quick but emotionally strong viewing.

Inside Man

A British thriller that proves it how a wrong choice can turn into a nightmare. On the one hand Stanley Tucci, brilliant criminologist on death row; on the other David Tennant, a seemingly irreproachable vicar. Their stories intertwine in a tense and unpredictable way. Four episodes are enough to tell an atypical crimebased more on moral decisions than on action.

Mindhunter

A cult for lovers of psychological crime. Set in the late 1970s, it follows the birth of FBI criminal profiling. Interviews with real-life serial killers unsolved cases and the emotional impact of the job on the agents are the heart of the series. The cast is solid and the two seasons available remain among the most popular of the genre on Netflix.
