Prime Video is ready to raise the curtain on Shoethe platform’s most ambitious bet in the field of high-profile psychological thrillers. The series inspired by Patricia Cornwell’s bestsellers will debut on March 11, 2026 in over 240 countries and will bring back to the stage one of the most iconic figures of contemporary crime, the forensic pathologist Kay Scarpetta.

It’s up to you to interpret it Nicole Kidmancalled to give body and nerve to a character who has marked generations of readers. Scarpetta is a scientist who has made precision her shield against human chaos. Kidman thus returns to a frontier role, which he stands out for his surgical clarity and emotional fragilityembodying a woman forced to deal with a past she believed buried along with her unsolved cases.

A return that still burns

The plot opens with Scarpetta’s return to the city that saw her become a celebrity twenty-eight years earlier, when an investigation had consecrated and, at the same time, broken her. Now he’s there again, head of the medical examiner’s office, for face a murder that has the sinister flavor of a showdown.

The series, developed by Liz Sarnoff (already behind serial masterpieces such as Lost e Barry) plays on a structure a double timelinealternating the 90s with the present to tell the story of the investigation but also the evolution of a woman who paid a high price for her vocation.

More than a crime series, Scarpetta is a reflection on memory, on the weight of choices and on the silent erosion of private life when the truth becomes an obsession.

The film cast

In addition to Kidman, the project features a team that seems straight out of an Oscar ceremony. Jamie Lee Curtis interpreta Dorothy FarinelliKay’s older sister, a character who in novels is often an open wound, between affection and resentment that have never healed.

Bobby Cannavale as Detective Pete Marinorough and loyal, while Simon Baker plays Benton Wesley, FBI profiler and erratic emotional companion of the protagonist. Ariana DeBose in the role of Lucy Watson, Kay’s niece and technological talent, completes the picture. There is no shortage of younger versions of the characters, entrusted to Rose McEwen, Amanda Righetti, Jake Cannavale and Hunter Parrish.

Five episodes that bear the directorial signature of David Gordon Green, here also executive producer, while the producers include heavyweight names such as Kidman herself, Jamie Lee Curtis and Patricia Cornwell herself, guaranteeing an emotional fidelity to Scarpetta’s universe.

The project is a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and Blumhouse Television as well as Blossom Films, Comet Pictures and P&S Projects
