Eric Dane he returned to talk about his farewell to the series Grey’s Anatomyin which he played Dr. Mark Sloan, nicknamed Dr. Bollore.

The character died at the beginning of season 9 after suffering fatal injuries in a plane crash.

Eric, speaking on an episode of the Armchair Podcast hosted by Dax Shepard, said that his personal issues and issues with various addictions caused his exit:

I think they got rid of me. They didn’t fire me for that, although it definitely didn’t help. I was becoming, as most actors do when they’ve been on a show for a long time, you start to become very expensive for the network. And the network knows that the show is going to do what it needs to do regardless of who’s involved. And as long as they have their Grey’s Anatomy, they’re fine.

Dane stressed:

I wasn’t the same person that they hired. So I knew when they let me go. And Shonda Rhimes was really great. She protected us in a determined way. She protected us publicly. She protected us privately… But I was probably fired. It wasn’t in a ceremonious way like someone was saying, ‘You’re fired.’ It was just, ‘You’re not coming back.’

The actor then returned briefly during season 17 when Meredith was in a coma and in her mind was on a beach, where she was visited by various loved ones, such as Sloan.

What do you think? Are you sad that Eric Dane was written out of Grey’s Anatomy?
