BENEVENTO – “Berlin” of “La casa di carta” is alive and well and will return with the homonymous prequel series for the second season on Netflix. In the meantime, his interpreter, Pedro Alonso, closes the BCT (the Benevento TV and Film Festival founded by Antonio Frascadore) in grand style with a connection from Mexico, where he is filming the new project.

What is your method for getting in tune with the character?

«Every time I have to shoot a scene I paint it first, so that the floor looks like a huge visual collage».

Do you still have a Dali mask and a red jumpsuit at home as you remember?

“I’m not sure. Netflix sent me a package at the end of filming but I never opened it, it could be in there or not, I’ll never know.”

“La casa de papel” creator Alex Pina said that killing “Berlin” was his biggest mistake. Do you agree? Especially since he was “compensated” with his own series?

“I disagree, both because he had this glorious and unforgettable exit and because in all the subsequent episodes he appeared with flashbacks to his mysterious past. He opened up a whole world, instead of limiting it, and this exit/non-exit is very much like “Berlin”, which is full of nuances and contradictions and always behaves in ways you don’t expect.”

You visit Italy all the time. Have you thought about a project here?

“Not only have I thought about it, but I see it as feasible. I don’t like living in the same place for a long time, even if objectively here in Mexico knowing that I live a few steps away from Frida Kahlo’s house is an incredible experience.”

Besides painting, writing books and doing every possible artistic activity. What do you miss?

«Perfecting my Italian and taking up singing. When the idea came up on the set, almost as a joke, that Berlin should sing, I was terrified but I didn’t think it would come to fruition, instead it happened several times and your “Bella ciao” even inspired many social revolutions in reality. I’m proud of it».

What else would you like to improve on, given that you have so many interests and skills?

“I’m not good at taking breaks in my life. I can’t sit still and while I was working as an actor I also debuted as a director.”
