Oso has lived most of his life on chains. This powerful German Shepherd cross was used as a guard dog, and was kept for at least three and a half years day and night outdoors in a garden in Vancouver, Canada, without a kennel or other protection. However, his fate began to change when he was rescued and transferred to the British Columbia Spca.

In the shelter, the dog finally found some love and compassion, but for months the staff searched for the ideal family for him without success. After 300 days of stay, his fifth birthday arrived and the volunteers wanted to organize a special party for him, keeping alive the hope that Oso could find a forever home even if he was no longer a puppy.
The party in his honor attracted the attention of many. And among them there was also Jonathan, who was going through a sad period of mourning. He had lost his dog, his life partner and best friend. But when he saw Oso’s big eyes his heart opened again and the two developed an almost instant bond.

Oso dreamed of the day he could leave the shelter with a loving human, while Jonathan sought a new connection to continue his love of animals. And it didn’t take long for Jonathan to make the decision to adopt Oso and give him the life he deserves. “He made such an impression on me…When I left the shelter that day I felt like I had met a new, old friend.”

“It was so emotional when we saw him walk through that door”, confesses Stephanie Arkwright, director of the facility. “We were so happy to see him leave with his new dad, but we were also all fond after so many days together.” A beautiful happy ending, with the promise of living a life full of love and happiness, which they both deserve.
