The latest series of analyzesARPA FVGconducted between June 11 and 12, revealed an alarming level of contamination in the waters of some seaside resorts in Friuli Venezia Giulia. In total, out of 66 points monitored, 9 showed levels of fecal contaminants beyond established limitssuggesting an acute pollution problem, perhaps triggered by recent heavy rains.
Areas affected by the Prohibitions
The affected areas are located in different locations:
Staranzano: at the point known as Lido di Staranzano
Monfalcone: in the Marina Julia and Marina Nova points
Trieste: at the north dam
Muggia: in the Bagno Muggesano and Bagno GMT points
Grade: in the Tenuta Primero, Europa and Punta Spin campsites, and at the Lido del Carabiniere
Measures taken so far include temporary bans on bathing and direct consumption of shellfishto due to the presence of contaminants such as salmonellaparticularly found in molluscs coming from the lagoon of Lignano.
Institutional responses and public debate
Rosaria Capozzi, regional councilor of the 5 Star Movement, criticizes the approach of the local authorities and raises concerns concerns regarding the safety of swimmers and consumers of seafood. The lack of effective warnings to tourists who continue to frequent these areas is one of the main talking points.
Furthermore, Capozzi recalls a similar episode that occurred last year, urging a clear and definitive intervention that can investigate and resolve the recurring causes of such contamination.
Perspectives
The question was also raised at European level by the newly elected MEP mayor of Monfalconewhich undertakes to raise and deal with the problem in the appropriate forums seek a definitive solution and safeguard public health and the marine environment.
