A few days ago theon the occasion of the premiere of the new production of Turandot And was presented at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the new 5 euro commemorative silver coin for the 100th anniversary of the death of Giacomo PucciniThe coin, which was issued by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and minted by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato, belongs to the Numismatic Collection of the Italian Republic 2024.
The request to include a special issue for the important centenary was promoted by the Giacomo Puccini Foundation of Lucca, which contributed directly to the work by making available the image of the portrait of the great composer made by Luigi De Servi in 1903, preserved in the Puccini Museum – Birthplace of the court of San Lorenzo, on loan from the National Museum of Palazzo Mansi.
In the month of May the mayor Mario Pardini visited the Poligrafico Zecca dello Stato establishments to personally see the first minted specimens. The collector’s coin, in 925 silver, is the work of Annalisa Masini with a print run of 3500 copies it measures 26,3 per 35 millimeters on the obverse depicts the portrait of Puccini by De Servi, on the reverse a bas-relief with Turandot from a 1926 Ricordi cover by Leopoldo Metlicovitz.
