The Tazzetti Museum in Usseglio celebrates its first 20 years with an exhibition dedicated to the phenomenon of immigration, from the historical emigration of many Italians abroad to recent experiences of welcoming migrants, with a particular reference to the Lanzo valleys.

The exhibition will be hosted in three locations: in addition to Usseglio (July 6 – September 1), also at the former Confraternity of Jesus in Lemie (July 20 – September 1) and at the State Archives of Turin (September 28 – October 27).

There is a rich collection of photographs, as well as descriptive texts, films and documents of local history made available by some local people, which narrate the migrations of Italians and valley dwellers at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, up to today’s immigrations from Africa and Asia.

The images were chosen and partly taken by Mauro Vallinotto in collaboration with his son Lorenzo, curators of the exhibition together with Alberto Tazzetti.

The Usseglio Museum hosts the part of the exhibition referring to the past. Here are also exhibited two sculptures by Gabriele Garbolino Rù. In Lemie the theme is more oriented to the present with color photographs that reveal the drama of the contemporary migratory experience, but also the desire to succeed.

The Usseglio exhibition will also be displayed in Turin, and will then be permanently placed in Lemie, the municipality that welcomed the largest number of migrants sent to the Viù Valley.

The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue with reflections by Mario Deaglio, Giuseppe Mendicino, Domenico Quirico, and Giuseppe Russo.

The organizers are the Museo Civico Alpino Arnaldo Tazzetti, the Museo Diffuso Valle di Viù and Melaediting, with the support of the general management of the State Archives of Turin, the Academy of Fine Arts of Turin, the Municipality of Viù, the Polo del ‘900 and La porta di vetro. Sponsors are the Municipalities of Usseglio and Lemie, the Metropolitan City of Turin, the Chamber of Commerce of Turin, Fondazione Crt, Smat, Unione industriali Torino, Filmar, Fra Production spa, Si.co.fer. and Sicurezza&Lavoro srl.
