A six-year-old girl saved her entire family by rushing into a burning house to wake them up and make them escape before it was too late. It happened in England where little Olivia Patterson was awarded the “Pride of Britain” prize for her heroic deed on April 4. The little girl was playing in a friend’s garden when she noticed flames coming from the roof of her house. The first thing she did was tell her friend’s mother, then she rushed to her home and warned her loved ones.

As British tabloid the Daily Mirror reports, mother Laura-Lee Patterson, 29, was napping with her two other children Tiffany Rose Austin, two, and Joel-James Edward Austin, 17 months, when the blaze broke out. Even as smoke filled the home in Riccall, North Yorkshire, Olivia rushed through the front door, shouting: “Fire, fire, fire, wake the children!”

“Her first instinct was to protect her family,” her mother said, explaining that when Olivia woke her up, “there were flames on the roof of the house and the ceiling was collapsing. She knew we were napping inside the house and she ran to wake us up and take us outside.” “For a six-year-old, what she did was very brave. We had been asleep for at least 20 minutes before Olivia called us,” her mother continued, explaining that “there were no fire alarms because the fire started in the loft.”
