On the day of the visit of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in Kiev, ceasefire talks return. The Hungarian leader, who arrived in Ukraine for a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky, stressed the need to end the conflict.

This is Orban’s first visit to Ukraine since the war between Russia and Ukraine began. The Hungarian Prime Minister last made an official visit in 2010. Today is a moment of responsibility for Hungary after assuming the EU presidency. European partners had been pressuring Orban to improve relations with the Ukrainian leadership, which had cooled due to the war with Moscow.

Ornan had his say in the meeting with Zelensky: “Ukraine should consider accepting a ‘quick ceasefire’ that would allow for the acceleration of negotiations with Russia to end the war. Hungary appreciates the peace initiatives developed by Ukraine“. These are the words of the Hungarian Prime Minister, who stressed the desire to improve relations with Kiev by signing a bilateral cooperation agreement.

Ukrainian President Zelensky’s response was immediate: “Today, Prime Minister Viktor Orban and I discussed the fundamental issues of our neighborly relations. We discussed trade, cross-border cooperation, infrastructure and energy. We also talked about the humanitarian sphere, about everything that affects the lives of our people both in Ukraine and Hungary.“.

Zelensky then added in a social post that the content of today’s dialogue on all these issues can form the basis for a new bilateral document. The goal is to regulate relations between Hungary and Ukraine, with a mutual approach to bilateral relations. This will allow our peoples to enjoy all the benefits of European unity.“, Zelensky added.
