One of the most anticipated races of this 6 Giorni delle Rose, the men’s omnium Gran Premio BFT Burzonidid not disappoint expectations: the French Benjamin Thomasfive-time world champion on the track (and winner of a splendid stage a month and a half ago at the Giro d’Italia) won at the end of a beautiful final points race, totalling 139 points, with another champion in second place, Elia Viviani (128 points). Third place for the Australian Liam Walshreached 127 points.

This was the highlight of the third evening of the great event that is ongoing until Thursday at the Velodromo “Attilio Pavesi” in Fiorenzuola d’Arda

The day’s program, with the start delayed by an hour due to bad weather, saw the need to carry out the qualification for the omnium, given the many registrations. Then the race began with the scratch, which saw the Australian Liam Walsh prevail ahead of Elia Viviani, Ivan Smirnov and Benjamin Thomas, all riders who, together with three others, had gained the lap. In the time race action of Thomas and Viviani, with the Frenchman who won ahead of the Italian, third Walsh. A challenge between the big favourites too in the elimination: in the final sprint it was Viviani who got the better of Thomas, with the other Italian Sierra third and Walsh fourth.

So the best started almost on equal terms in the final 60-lap points race that decided the omnium Gran Premio BFT Burzoni, a preview of what this race will be like in a month at the Paris Olympic Games. The first three on the podium were awarded by Gian Luca Andrina of BFT Burzoni and Uci councilor Daniela Isetti.

WOMEN’S RACES
The women’s madison also began on this third evening, which also included the flying lap test. Tonight’s madison (another one will be run tomorrow and the last one on Wednesday) was won by the Polish couple from Rosti, Patrycia Lorkowska and Maja Tracka, who totaled 20 points, eight more than the Australians Sally Carter and Keira Will (Bussandri), with the Czechs Gabriela Bartova and Barbora Nemcova (Acef) in third place. Polish success also in the flying lap, with Eliza Rabazynska and Martyna Szcesna, a couple in the Falco jersey, who stopped the clock at 24″174.
At the end of the evening, the Polish Lorkowska and Tracka wore the white Siderpighi jersey of the general classification.
