Palazzolo, Vincenzo’s death: prosecutor Gambino’s inspection, autopsy postponed

The prosecutor of Syracuse, Sabrina Gambino, wanted to personally carry out an inspection of the farm in the Falabia district, in Palazzolo Acreide, in the Syracuse area, where the tragedy occurred with the death of Vincenzo, the 10-year-old boy who fell to the bottom of a well. With her was also the commander of the Syracuse Carabinieri, Gabriele Barecchia, who is coordinating the investigations of the Syracuse military with the hypothesis of manslaughter, centered on the alleged responsibilities of the owner of the company, as well as the head of Anffas, the cooperative that takes care of disabled children and organizer of the summer camp where Vincenzo was, and of the other operators.

In defining the suspects, the investigators are examining various aspects, including the roles that each of them had on that day: there were those who were supposed to look after only the disabled, others, however, would have had other tasks, for which the prosecutor’s office is proceeding with a screening, considering that, overall, there were about fifteen people on that dramatic day. For this reason, the autopsy which was thought to be carried out today has been postponed to next week, therefore the little boy’s body still remains under seizure and only when the autopsy examination is concluded will the body be returned to the parents for the celebration of the rite funeral which will take place in Palazzolo Acreide.

During the inspection, the entire plot of land was combed through: apparently, the well into which Vincenzo fell is in the center of the small playground, so it is easy to reach and in fact attracted the attention of the a 10-year-old boy who, before falling to the bottom of the cavity, 15 meters deep and half covered in water, made some leaps onto the roof. It was a game for him, some witnesses would have said that one or more operators would have shouted at the child to get off but this reconstruction is still being examined by the magistrates of the prosecutor’s office and the Carabinieri of Syracuse.
