Un Certain Regard, Chinese drama ‘Black Dog’ wins


CANNES – The drama film by the Chinese director Hu Guan, Black Dogwon the award Best Film in the section Un Certain Regard at Cannes 77.

Set on the edge of the Gobi Desert in northwest China, the drama revolves around a man who returns to his hometown after being released from prison. While working for the local dog patrol team to clear the city of stray dogs before the Olympic Games, makes an unlikely connection with a black dog. These two lonely souls embark on a new journey together.

The Jury Prize went to the story of Boris Lojkine about asylum seekers, set in Paris, The Story Of Souleymane.

The prize for the Best Director it’s a ex aequo: Roberto Minervini with The damnedAnd Rungano Nyoni For On Becoming a Guinea Fowl.

The Performance Award went to Anasuya Sengupta for the drama set in India, The Shameless, by Bulgarian director Konstantin Bojanov; and ad Abou Sangare for his performance in The Story Of Souleymane by Boris Lojkine.

Among other awards, the French director Louise Courvoisier he won it Youth Prize For Holy Cowwhile the Saudi director Tawfik Alzaidi received one Special mention For Norah.

There Jury this year was chaired by the Canadian actor, director, screenwriter and producer Xavier Dolanwho were joined by the French-Senegalese screenwriter and director Maïmouna Doucouré, the Moroccan director, screenwriter and producer Asmae El Moudir, the German-Luxembourg actress Vicky Krieps and the American Todd McCarthy, film critic, director and writer.
