An inspection will follow to collect any biological traces.

However, it will still take some time to know the identity of thebear, born in 2024, found in recent days in the woods of the municipality of Garniga Terme. The presence of the animal had been reported by a hiker to the forestry staff who, according to protocol, moved the bear into the woods, removing it from the road where it was located, with the aim of promoting reunion with its mother. A patrol also closed the road and monitored the area to avoid contact with hikers. In the following days, the animal was found dead, probably because it had been abandoned by its mother. This is probably the son of the bear observed in the area on the same days with another cub. The carcass was therefore genetically sampled: through the database of Mach Foundation it will be possible to know the identity of the father and mother. In this regard, it should be noted that in the first year of life the natural mortality rate of bear cubs can exceed 50%.

The invitation remains to stick to the good rules of behavior suggested by experts in the areas frequented by large carnivores and follow the advice on the Grandicarnivori.provincia.tn.it website.
