SVT bus hub at the Ferrovieri, Colombara: what impact?

Given that news recently is the announcement of the start of a procedure for the acquisition of the former Lanerossi area for the construction of a new hub for SVT buses and which involves the Province, Municipality and SVT.

Raffaele Colombara, municipal councilor

This news came unexpectedly and aroused considerable concern among the citizens of Vicenza, in particular among the residents of the affected area (via Rossi, vicolo De Campesani, via Vaccari etc.), who fear a worsening of the impact on the environment and on quality of life deriving from the proximity of the site to a densely inhabited area (the problems already encountered over the years resulting from the presence of similar hubs scattered throughout the city and which would arise again here are known); and resulting from the increase in vehicular traffic.
The former Lanerossi area is in fact located in an area already heavily congested by traffic, especially during morning and evening rush hours, due to the presence of various industrial and commercial activities.
Furthermore, the impact of the TAV project on the area is already notable, given that it will involve the construction of new infrastructures and the demolition of the Ponte Alto flyover, with a further increase in traffic.
Other available information includes the commission of a pre-feasibility and sustainability study by SVT, the indication of the estimated value of the area of 600,000 euros and the forecast of a direct connection road between the area and Viale Milano, in to which we also add some critical issues, such as the possible non-use of the structure in via Fusinieri, for which SVT pays an expensive rent, and the arrival of the BRT vehicles before the construction of the electric bus line, a compensatory work Tav.

  • In particular, regarding the provision of a direct connection road between the area and Viale Milano using the old railway site, it is worth remembering that in the public debates that have taken place over the years, various proposals have emerged, including from the writing councilor himself, shared with the citizens , all aimed at the creation, on and around that area, of an alternative cycle-pedestrian route, equipped, in the greenery, which leads from San Lazzaro to the city centre.

Considering that the The Municipality of Vicenza has the duty to protect the health and well-being of citizens and to promote sustainable mobility.

The undersigned City Councillor

ASKS

to the Lord Mayor:
To provide further details on the pre-feasibility and sustainability study commissioned by SVT, specifying the scenarios evaluated and the related conclusions.
To clarify whether alternatives to the location of the hub in the former Lanerossi area have been evaluated, as already requested previously, in particular with reference to the use of less congested areas or areas already used for public transport services.
If it has been specifically assessed how the construction of a new bus hub in the former Lanerossi area could lead to an increase in air and noise pollution, as well as an increase in vehicular traffic and risks to road safety.
To illustrate the measures that the Administration intends to adopt to mitigate the environmental impact and on the quality of life deriving from the construction of the SVT bus hub in the former Lanerossi area.
To clarify the future of the structure in via Fusinieri in the event of the hub being built in the former Lanerossi area.
To evaluate the feasibility of anticipating the construction of the electric bus line with respect to the arrival of the BRT vehicles, to avoid an increase in vehicular traffic in the former Lanerossi area.

  • The use of the old railway land for the creation of a cycle-pedestrian path would represent a valid and sustainable alternative for city mobility: to evaluate the feasibility of creating an equipped cycle-pedestrian path in the greenery that connects San Lazzaro to the historic centre, using the old railway land railway that passes alongside the former Lanerossi area.
