Another 24-hour transport strike with no guaranteed timetable is coming

Sunday, July 7 will be an unforgettable day for those who had planned to travel by train at a national and regional level: a 24-hour strike is planned that will involve Trenord and Trenitalia. Not only that: in Milan and in various Italian cities a local public transport strike is planned for the same day, so even the metro, buses and trams will be at risk.

Trenord and Trenitalia train timetables

Confirming the train strike, announced by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, are Trenord and Trenitalia themselves. “From 9:00 p.m. on Saturday 6 July to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday 7 July 2024, the trade unions Cub Trasporti, Sgb, and Usb Lavoro Privato have called a strike,” writes Trenord. However, the Lombard company claims, “in similar circumstances, there have been no significant repercussions on the service.” This despite the fact that the guaranteed time slots are not active, since the strike is on a holiday.

In the event of cancellation of airport service trains, buses without intermediate stops will be set up between:

  • Milan Cadorna and Malpensa Airport for the Malpensa Express. From Milan Cadorna buses will depart from via Paleocapa 1.
  • Stabio and Malpensa Airport for the airport connection S50 Malpensa Airport – Stabio.

“The union strike – Trenitalia writes instead – can lead to changes to the service even before its start and after its conclusion. Travelers who intend to cancel their trip can ask for a refund starting from the strike declaration until the departure time of the booked train for Intercity and Frecce trains; or until 11.59 pm on the day before the strike itself for Regional trains”.

“Alternatively – continues Trenitalia – they can reschedule their trip, under similar transport conditions, as soon as possible, subject to seat availability. Information on connections and services is also available through the company app and the toll-free number 800 89 20 21, at ticket offices and from Customer Service staff”.

The Atm transport strike in Milan

Sunday, July 7th there will be a strike of local public transport at a national level. Also in Milan therefore metro, trams and Atm buses could be at risk. The ministry has announced this on the calendar dedicated to strikes published the event.

The strike is organized by the Orsa local public transport union. It will last 4 hours but the guaranteed time slots will vary from city to city. In Milan, Atm has not yet published the detailed timetables for the day. The amount of disruptions and ‘skipped’ journeys, as always, will depend on the actual participation of the staff. A figure that is communicated to the company on the morning of the strike.
