In the weekly newsletter of the Fibra Click forum there is a lot of talk about a serious one vulnerability discovered in the FritzBox 7590 modem routeralthough other models in the lineup are also affected.

According to what was stated by the user Edofullo, the bug would already be known in some groups in the sector and although no official communications have arrived from AVM on the matter, the hypothesis that other models of FritzBox modems and routers are also affected cannot be excluded .

The vulnerability would allow for gain control of the device through port 443whether a router service is exposed or if set as forwarding to another device connected to the LAN.

The post reads that i customers different operators (even non-Italian) are reportedly being attacked by hackers who are already actively exploiting the vulnerability. In this case, the hackers would modify the PPP credentials preventing the internet connection and the administrative credentials, which prevents users from accessing the router’s control panel. Consequently, the only way to solve and protect yourself is to reset the device.

It is not clear if AVM is already working on a fix, but at the moment the only known way to protect yourself is to close port 443 on the WAN side.
