Nintendo Switch has reached a truly important milestone: it is now the best-selling console ever in its homeland, that is, in Japan. Yes, the hybrid console also surpassed the numbers made by Nintendo DS, reaching first position. Considering that it could still have several years of support, it is destined to achieve numbers that are truly unattainable in those parts.

According to data collected and processed by the Japanese magazine Famitsu, Nintendo Switch has currently sold 32,903,701 units in Japan. This is enough to surpass the Nintendo DS which sold 32,864,129 units. Nintendo DS held the previous Japanese record for best-selling console, so Nintendo Switch surpassed not only its ancestor, but also every other console that was sold in local stores. Mind-blowing stuff.

A road paved with successes

The Nintendo Switch has a long way to go

As mentioned, what makes the success of the Nintendo Switch even more explosive is that it reached this amount of sales towards the end of its life cycle, but well before the actual exit, considering that there are still many months left for the arrival of the rumored Nintendo Switch 2, which itself has not yet been officially announced, even if Nintendo has started talking about it in its official documents. Just think that this week alone the hybrid console sold another 40,000 units in Japan alone.

Moreover, for years we have been pointing out in the Japanese rankings that Nintendo Switch is the leader of the console market, with the software rankings which have often been monochrome, i.e. they have seen the top ten positions occupied only by Nintendo Switch games, and the hardware ones which they have seen it in their heads for years, apart from on a few particular occasions.

At this point we are curious to know how many units sold will arrive and if the Nintendo console that follows will be able to achieve similar results.
