007 First Light modified some features of James Bond that could have been “inappropriate”

With a choice that did not fail to raise the usual controversies, IO Interactive reported that it had modified some classic traits of James Bond per 007 First Light that they could have be “inappropriate” for the period and modern audiences.

In particular, the cinematic director Martin Emborg he stated that while elements of the charming and mellow Bond that many have come to expect from the series remain, he will still be a “modern man”, capable of reflecting “modern values”.

The issue particularly concerns i relationships with womenconsidering that the character of the 60s was characterized by an attitude that could be irrelevant compared to the new sensitivity of the modern public.

A modern man

There has already been an evolution in film seriesbut 007 First Light features a young James Bond, who therefore should not be far from the one depicted in his first adventures on the big screen, which could create a certain discrepancy.

For this, the developers had to carefully balance the changes to be applied to the character, which will be rather subtle but perhaps significant, while waiting to have a more precise idea of ​​how he will appear in the game.

Interviewed in recent days, Emborg explained that the fundamental characteristics of James Bond will still be there, including some “womanizer” tendenciesbut that the character has nevertheless evolved.

“So, it has evolved over the decades and, of course, now reflects the modern values. So it won’t be the old school Bond, which would just be out of place today, right? He is a modern man,” Emborg explained.

However, the character played in the game by Patrick Gibson it will still be recognizable as James Bond, even when it comes to the animations or the combat system: “It’s really physical because Bond is a very physical guy. It’s a lot of fun and I think it’s something that IO had never done before. I think we’ve also added several layers to our ranged combat,” said the cinematic director.

Meanwhile, 007 First Light has been delayed and is now scheduled for release on May 27, 2026.
