Roberto Carloslegend of Real Madrid and the Brazilian national team, was subjected to surgery in a hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil, after medical tests revealed a heart problem. The news was released by the Spanish newspaper As. The 52-year-old former footballer is out of danger and will remain under observation for a few hours as a precaution, according to initial information.

Roberto Carlos had undergone tests due to a blood clot detected in his leg, as part of a routine medical check-up. After performing an MRI and other tests, doctors discovered that his heart was not functioning properly, leading to the decision to operate on him immediately. The operation, initially considered simple (about 40 minutes), lasted almost three hours due to complications that arose during the operation.

The newspaper As contacted the former player, who wanted to reassure all fans and enthusiasts with a few words: «I’m fine now. They are taking care of me.”

At the beginning of 2025 it emerged that Roberto Carlos, for many the best left back in the history of football, was sleeping as a guest at Valdebebas, Real Madrid’s sports centre, as he was left homeless after starting divorce proceedings from his second wife, Mariana Luccon (married in 2009). His private life has often been the subject of criticism: «I have several children, 11 to be precise. Nine live in Brazil, one in Mexico, one was born in Hungary but lives in Alicante – he said in an old interview – I have only had two wives. It’s harder to count the women I’ve had children withi”, he joked.

Roberto Carlos he was included among the candidates to win the Ballon d’Or for seven years in a row (from 1997 to 2003), reaching second position in 2002 behind his compatriot Ronaldo. He achieved his greatest successes with Real Madrid (1996-2007), winning the La Liga four times, three Champions Leagues, two Club World Cups and more. With Brazil he has two triumphs in the America’s Cup and, above all, the 2002 World Cup. The former full-back also played in Serie A in the 1996/97 season, when Inter signed him very young from Palmeiras. Not appreciated by the then Nerazzurri coach Roy Hodgson, he moved to Real Madrid at the end of the year.
