Bitter defeat of Matteo Arnaldi recovers from two sets up against Frances Tiafoe in the first round of Wimbledon. The Ligurian therefore fails to win the first match of his career at the Championships with some regrets, but also with the awareness of having made giant steps in just 365 days.
These are his considerations in the press conference: “Nothing special happened after the second set, he was very good and he improved a lot from the third set onwards. I had my chances, in the fourth and fifth, there were moments when I could have turned the match in my favor, but he was very good at staying focused at all times. This is the first time I lose in the fifth, as soon as the match ends there are many negative things in my head, but when we are calm we will analyze this match better and we will also draw the positive things”.
On the possibility of being seeded: “Last year I was one spot out of the draw, this year I was already in the draw. These are steps I’m taking during the year, I’m improving a lot even on grass. Compared to last year I definitely played better, I lost badly against Carballes Baena. It would be nice to be seeded, but I have nothing to say about the draw, I think I showed that I can compete with everyone. I could have played with Tiafoe even if I had been seeded and he maybe one out. Now I’ll play Hamburg, Umag and then I’ll go and play the Olympics“.
