We don’t joke anymore Tour de France 2024. The Grande Boucle bids farewell to Italy to return to the other side of the Alps: the fourth stage starts from Pinerolo and arrives in Valloire with the Alps as the protagonists. Let’s discover the fraction in detail with the route, altimetry, favorites and program.

LIVE COVERAGE OF TODAY’S TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE FROM 13.15

TODAY’S STAGE ROUTE

We start from Pinerolo to arrive in Valloire after 139.6 kilometers, but above all 3600 meters of altitude difference. Shortly after the start, we will begin to climb towards the Sestrièrea long second category GPM that will take you to over 2000 meters of altitude (39.9 km at 3.7%). You will glide at the end of a rapid descent to Cesana Torinese (where Armin Zoeggeler won gold in luge in Turin 2006 and the 2011 World Championships) and you will climb back up towards the Col de Montenevrecrossing the border into France (8.3 km at 5.9%). We will thus enter the Hautes-Alpes region, we will pass through Briançon and there will not be much space to catch our breath towards the Galibier Passand except category at 2642 meters of altitude (23 km at 5.1%, but with two peaks at 9% in the final). The summit will be 19 km from the finish: from here it is all downhill towards the finish line in Valloire.

ALTIMETRY

FAVORITES

The first direct clash between the big names in the general classification is expected after Sunday’s appetizer on San Luca. And obviously all eyes are on the head-to-head between Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard, with the Slovenian looking to create the first gap between himself and the Dane. But also keep an eye on Remco Evenepoel, who has appeared brilliant up to now, and the Yellow Jersey Richard Carapaz. Primoz Roglic and Carlos Rodriguez, who are not yet at 100% form, will have to defend themselves. In Italy, Giulio Ciccone’s goal is to resist Pogacar’s attacks as much as possible and try to stay in the upper areas of the classification.
