At Rovigo rugby, the successor to Alessandro Lodi (who joined the staff of the Under 20 national team), bears the name of Davide Giazzon. In fact, he will be the new head coach of the Rodigini rossoblù for next season. Arriving as coach of the Bersaglieri scrum in 2020, former hooker of the Italian national team, with which he collected 29 caps, Davide Giazzon will be supported by Joe Van Niekerk, defense coach and Stefan Basson, attack coach. Rossoblù number 548 was part of the Rovigo squad for one year, in 2011/12; subsequently he signed with the Aironi, with the Zebre, where he played 31 games and then with Benetton Rugby. In his last season as a player, he returned to the club where he grew up, Mogliano Rugby. Davide began his coaching career in 2018 at Villorba Rugby in Serie B, then arriving in Rovigo in 2020 as coach of the rossoblù pack. With the rossoblù Giazzon won two championships in 2021 and 2023. “I would like to thank Alessandro for these two years, where we worked together” the words of sporting director Polla Roux. He led the team with professionalism, managing to win their fourteenth championship in 2023. We thank him for his passion and attachment to the shirt. He gave a lot to the team and the city. To give continuity to the project started with Lodi, with president Zambelli, the director continues, we have identified Giazzon as the right person to fill the role of head coach. It was important to maintain this calm and positive environment, so we could only choose someone already on the staff. Giazzon, who has supported three coaches in Rovigo, has demonstrated that he has the competence to lead the team. It will be a new experience for him, we are happy to be able to give him this opportunity: we believe in his qualities. We must continue to grow and train players. He has the full support of the club.”
