Roland Garros, the program for Saturday 8 June: the finals of Paolini, Vavassori-Bolelli

Carlos Alcaraz’s victory over Jannik Sinner prevented Italy from completing the finals at Roland Garros. It would have been an extraordinary achievement, but the tricolor still flies imposingly in Paris: there are three finals to try to win, to make this edition of the second Slam of the season truly historic. It starts on Saturday, with the women’s final and the men’s doubles final scheduled: Italian tennis will be the protagonist on Philippe Chatrier.

JASMINE, WE NEED THE COMPANY

Appointment at 3pm with Jasmine Paolini: the Tuscan tennis player goes in search of a challenge against Iga Swiatek, the strongest player on the planet and the undisputed dominator on clay. The Italian has put together the perfect tournament up to this moment and will try to give herself a historic day: Paolini plays in the first Slam final of her career, before this tournament she had never made it past the round of 16 in the Majors. The surprise against the champion: Swiatek is playing for her fourth title in Paris (it would be the third in a row) and her fifth Slam. However the final goes, from Monday Paolini will find herself high in the rankings: in seventh place in case of defeat, in fifth place if the incredible victory were to arrive.

BOLELLI AND VAVASSORI

Once the women’s final is over and the champion has been celebrated, it won’t be time to turn off the television yet: Italy will still be on stage at Chatrier with the men’s doubles final. Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli will play the second Slam final of the season over two tournaments: extraordinary continuity. It would be the first Major title for the Italian couple, Bolelli already has success at the Australian Open in 2015 together with Fabio Fognini on his CV. The two Italians will face Mate Pavic and Marcelo Arevalo, a rematch of the semi-final of the Internazionali d’Italia lost by our team: the opportunity to make up for it is very tempting. In case of victory, Bolelli and Vavassori would rise to first place in the Race. There is no set time for the men’s doubles final: it will begin at the end of the women’s awards ceremony. For both challenges, the reference channel is Eurosport 1, in addition to the Eurosport and Discovery+ platforms. The blue Roland Garros did not end with Sinner.
