Juve, Giuntoli and the new managers: who are Pompilio, Stefanelli and Sbravati

After a year of studying the structure, the head of the sports area will bring with him his trusted profiles: from right-hand man Pompilio to news on scouting and youth

May 20 – 7.41am – TURIN

Cristiano Giuntoli’s loyalists are ready to land at Juve. The head of the Juventus sporting area presented himself alone last summer, with the clear intention of studying the structure before imposing upheavals. Now, having clearer ideas about the needs, he proposes some trusted men to develop his project idea. From Pompilio to Stefanelli, up to Sbravati: let’s see what the pillars of the new Juve will be.

GIUSEPPE POMPILIO

The man Cristiano Giuntoli missed most during his first season at Juve is Giuseppe Pompilio: the operational arm of his sports management since his time at Carpi and throughout all his years in Naples. When De Laurentiis decided to free the manager, depriving him of the support of his closest collaborator, he knew that it would greatly limit his operations. Here, Pompilio will expire in June but in all likelihood his arrival could be brought forward due to Giovanni Manna’s transfer to Napoli, considering that the procedures for the termination of his contract with Juventus have already been started. A productive exchange, which could return to Giuntoli the man who has always dealt with contracts and the bureaucratic part of market negotiations: it will be one of the main references.

STEFANO STEFANELLI

Last summer Stefano Stefanelli also seemed one step away from Juve, then nothing happened and – after finishing his season at Cesena in the play-offs – he signed a two-year contract at Pisa. The Tuscan club has already made it clear that it has no intention of hindering the path of the sporting director, who Giuntoli wants at his side to follow the scouting area and various transfer negotiations. He was also part of the Carpi management team, and worked for a period with Giuntoli at Napoli, taking on the sporting direction of the Primavera team. A lawyer like Pompilio, a football man: he has a background as a center forward and a recognized flair for scouting for talent.

MICHELE SBRAVATI

Michele Sbravati, who was also Giuntoli’s teammate at Imperia, is also ready to change his shirt to join Juventus. Man of experience – and trust, according to the old estimate – at youth level: currently responsible for Genoa’s youth team but now close to moving to Vinovo. Here he will find a structure that in the last ten years has produced a good part of the talents that today stand out in the first team, from Miretti to Fagioli, and those who are ready to make the leap after completing their training in Next Gen: a sector that up to now has reference to Massimiliano Scaglia (who could remain with a specific role) but which is the result of team work, having involved many figures in the supply chain. Here too we will need to find a new balance.
