Possible food poisoning is the cause of the death of two women, mother and daughter, at the Cardarelli hospital in Campobasso. From what we learn, in fact, the mother of the 15-year-old who died last night also died. The woman, Antonella Di Ielsi50 years old from Pietracatella, was hospitalized in serious condition. She worked with her accountant husband, 55 years old, formerly mayor of the town for a long time. His daughter, 15 years she died during the night in hospital, where she had been admitted after a HIGHLANDS which had been going on for several hours. The young woman, a classical high school student in the Molise capital, rapidly worsened until she died. According to the first medical evaluations, the main hypothesis is that of one possible food poisoningperhaps linked to the consumption of pesce during the holidays. At the moment, however, other causes are not excluded and the health authorities have started investigations to clarify the origin of the tragedy.
The fifteen-year-old had arrived in the emergency room with persistent symptoms, compatible with a severe gastrointestinal disorder. Despite treatment, his condition worsened in the following hours. The causes of death remain to be defined: among the hypotheses being examined there is one gastroenteritis acute resulting from food poisoning, but the medico-legal tests will provide definitive answers. For this reason it was willing the autopsydeemed essential to precisely reconstruct the sequence of events and ascertain any responsibilities.
According to what was reconstructed in the investigations, the three members of the family, before yesterday’s hospitalization, had gone twice to the emergency room of the Cardarelli hospital in Campobasso and were then immediately discharged with the diagnosis of food poisoning. The father is still hospitalized at Cardarelli, but could be transferred to Rome.
“The clinical pictures had a truly rare evolution which quickly led to death despite the intensive forms of support we put in place,” he told the agency Ansa Vincenzo Cuzzonehead of the hospital’s intensive care unit. “They began to have these symptoms after a meal, but it is fragmentary information collected by them who were nevertheless shaken. There was liver failure and then a cascade of events one after the other with a truly unique rapidity that led to multiple organ failure. The other sister is fine, she did not have the symptoms of her family members. That day it seems she did not eat the meal with them. These days it is also difficult to trace exactly which meal the episode refers to”. “Yesterday we managed the little girl who arrived in the emergency room with generic symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain – concludes Cuzzone – after the death and the rapid and sudden evolution, we asked the family to also take her mother to hospital because the family had reported that she had the same symptoms. We tried to anticipate things a little, but this advance was not enough. The father is currently hospitalized with us, in intensive care, he is in good stability. In case of evolution we will transfer him to a reference centre, like it Spallanzani of Rome or the hospital of Napoli“.
