the message for New Year’s Eve

The last hours of the old year and the first hours of the new hide dangers for those who want to celebrate by exploding the barrels. The mayor of Venaria Reale wanted to send a message together with the 16-year-old who lost a hand due to an unexploded firecracker that he picked up in the street on New Year’s Eve. The firecracker went off before he could throw it back. One game, one bang, can sometimes change your life in an instant. “There are a thousand ways to have fun, avoid hurting yourself”, is the appeal of Fabio Giulivi who recorded a video with the injured boy a year ago in Piazza Annunziata. The episode has profoundly affected the city community, which is why the municipal administration of Venaria Reale is once again drawing attention to the real risks linked to the use of barrels, strongly relaunching a message of prevention and responsibility.

The video with the young man’s testimony

Through the publication of a video on institutional social channels, the
boy, who wished to remain anonymous, tells what happened to especially warn his peers. A testimony made public with the aim of preventing similar tragedies from happening again. “What happened to him can happen to anyone. The fights are not a game and the consequences can be devastating and permanent”, declares the mayor Fabio Giulivi who asks him what he remembers of that evening. “That evening it was all dark. Having seen this firecracker in the center of the square I approached, seeing that it had not yet exploded, I took it in my hand. Before throwing it, it exploded in my hand.” Today, one year later, what do you feel like saying to your peers? “I try to say to be careful with certain types of firecrackers, never pick them up in your hand.”

The appeal of the municipal administration

“I signed an ordinance that introduces specific bans on our territory, but no rule is effective without people’s sense of responsibility. Prevention starts from the behavior of each of us.” The City invites citizens, families and young people to reflect on the dangers associated with the use of pyrotechnic articles and to experience New Year’s Eve in a peaceful and respectful way, without risking their own safety, that of others and the well-being of animals, often indirect victims of noisy celebrations. “Everyone’s safety depends on each of us.”
