Roma Capitale updates the rates for 2026. From burials to the rent of the sports hall, here are all the increases

New tariffs for public services of Rome Capital aimed at citizens. With a resolution approved by the council on 19 December, all the tables are updated for 2026, in some cases with increases linked to inflation, in others as a precise strategic choice.

Rates 2026 for Rome Capital services

One thing must be said immediately: basic services, those that most meet the needs of Roman families, remain substantially unchanged. From nurseries to school meals, from retirement homes to recreational centres: in these cases there have been no adjustments. The situation is different regarding the use of sports facilities (not so much those within schools), and burials in the Capitoline cemeteries. Especially the monumental one of Verano.

50% increase in summer

Let’s start with this last service. The most significant increase, in fact, concerns the Verano monumental cemetery, where the concessions for tombs, sarcophagi and aedicules (all assigned via tender) undergo increases of up to 50%. For a tomb, it goes from just over 2,100 euros to over 3,200, for a sarcophagus it goes up to over 4,600 euros. On the other hand, Verano is not a cemetery like the others, it enjoys protections and restrictions and has a monumental value recognized ten years ago, a detail that allows for a 50% increase on the concessions put up for tender.

Adjustments to ordinary tariffs

As regards ordinary cemetery rates (graves, ossuaries, cremations, burials and exhumations), the increase is generalized, but limited: we are 1.5% more than in 2025, in line with the Istat update.

Sports facilities fees

The situation is different for sports facilities. Roma Capitale has decided to earn more from the events that take place in its facilities, especially sports halls and large indoor venues. Compared to 2025, the fees will increase significantly, this means that sports clubs will have to pay more starting from the 2026 season.

Increases for the rent of the Palatitian

Specifically, the increases affect the sports hall in Piazza Apollodoro al Flaminio. Currently inside the structure, reopened for sporting events in autumn 2023 after a restyling costing five million euros, Smi Roma Volley (women), Virtus GVM Roma 1960 (men’s basketball) and Luiss Basket, also a men’s basketball team, play their home matches.

Increases for sports clubs

For “sporting events falling within championships and competitive seasons recognized in the national calendars of sports federations”, the daily rate increases from 1,500 to 3,000 euros. A fee of 3,000 euros is also included for “Promotional sports event organized by FSN/EPS/DSA/ASD (free entry)”, therefore involving federations, promotional bodies, amateur sports associations or sports disciplines recognized by CONI. Double, therefore 6,000 euros, for promotional sporting events with paid entry, while it reaches 8,000 euros for a national or international sporting event which includes paid tickets and television filming with the transfer of TV rights.

Unchanged services and free museums

For the rest, as anticipated, the rates remain unchanged. Costs for municipal nursery schools, school meals, retirement homes, local markets and public toilets have been frozen. News, as already anticipated in recent days, concerns museums. Non-residents, from February 1st, will have to pay two euros to enter the basin of the Trevi Fountain and will also pay a ticket for the Giovanni Barracco ancient sculpture museum, the Carlo Bilotti and the Orangery of Villa Borghese, the Pietro Canonica museum, the Napoleonic one and the Villa of Massenzio. All the details in this article.

News at the Circus Maximus

News, in 2026, for the use of the archaeological area of the Circus Maximus for events that require paid public access, therefore essentially for the concerts that usually take place in the summer season. The Gualtieri council has decided to eliminate the obligation to recognize 5% on tickets sold net of VAT and SIAE charges.

Criticism: “Anti-social resolution”

There are those who have strongly criticized the tariff adjustment. In particular Fabrizio Santori, group leader of the League in Campidoglio: “It is a Christmas resolution only in terms of the calendar, but profoundly anti-social in content. The costs of services on individual demand are increased without any assessment of the social impact, without graduality, without protection for vulnerable subjects and without distinguishing between large operators and small entrepreneurs”.
