TERMOLI. Termoli summer festival is ready to host Mahmood. Tomorrow night, Wednesday 3 July, at the Arena del Mare 42°15°, there will be the zero and unique date for Molise and Abruzzo.
Here’s what Mahmood told us ahead of his concert in Termoli.
After conquering clubs all over Europe, you are now leaving for your SUMMER TOUR. How do you feel and what do you expect?
Touring Europe again was an incredible experience and gave me a huge boost of energy. I can’t wait to get going again and perform again, always alongside my trusty band: this will be a summer full of festivals and concerts and I’m really happy to meet my audience again. I want to make people dance and have fun, the feeling of being in touch with your fans and feeling all the energy they give you back is something that can’t be explained in words, and all these emotions only strengthen the messages I want to send on stage.
Your new single “RA TA TA” was released on June 14th. How did the song come about and what does it tell?
For this song I was inspired by the film “City of God”, which I saw for the first time a year and a half ago. It is the story of these children and young people who are born and grow up without parents, in an environment of hardship and violence: it is a daily life made of abandonment and difficulty, unfortunately always of sad topicality. The “machine gun mouth” represents the words fired in bursts that become the only weapon to defend oneself from these injustices.
2024 also marked the release of your new album “NEI LETTI DEGLI ALTRI” (now platinum). What is it about?
This album represents not only a return to the origins, but above all the story and reflections on my last years: the trips I have taken, the life I have lived and how I have changed, also regarding the theme of feelings. It is a very intimate and intense album, I opened up a lot, I wanted to be 100% sincere because this is my way of making music. I chose the bed as a metaphor for relationships, because that is our safe haven, the place we return to every evening, where we think about everything that happens to us. This album is also very important because I have been lucky enough to work a lot abroad, to do numerous collaborations that I am proud of, not only Italian but also international.
Before this, we saw you again on stage at the Sanremo Festival with “TUTA GOLD” (now quadruple platinum). How was it? Did you expect all this success?
The success of “TUTA GOLD” was perhaps one of the most unexpected things this year. The Ariston stage always inspires me to do something different, so I returned to the Festival with the idea of bringing a baile funk, with a strong chorus, but above all with the intent of telling the story behind this song. I had a lot of fun and once again Sanremo allowed me to grow, both artistically and as a person.
And after the end of the summer tour what awaits you?
I can’t stay away from the stage and my audience, in fact in autumn my first tour in the arenas awaits me and I’m really excited. I’m very happy because it will be a new challenge for me, we are already working on the show and I can’t wait to reveal everything. It’s strange to think especially about the fact that I will perform at the Forum in Milan, my city: I see it a bit like the closing of a circle.
