DC Comics beats Marvel to cinemas for the first time since 2008

The last time a film inspired by the comic book universe of DC Comics he had beaten Marvel it was in 2008, when The Dark Knight Rises It grossed around $1 billion, also becoming the biggest hit of that year.

At the time the Marvel Cinematic Universe it was little more than an idea, which began to materialize with the theatrical release of Iron Man e Incredible Hulkwhich however did not go beyond 585 million and 264 million respectively.

From then on we know the story, with the Marvel shared universe capable of creating plots and subplots that have increasingly involved viewers, the exact opposite of what DC didwith a less than homogeneous universe, disconnected TV series and alternative realities dedicated exclusively to Batman.

However, things have now changed, with the arrival of James Gunn in casa DC Studiosand a new coherent and shared universe that began its course with Superman. There is a hint of crisis for the comic book genre, also due to less than perfect plots in the last period, but Man of Steel has been able to gross approximately $616 million globallywhile the 2025 Marvel films didn’t do the same.

The Fantastic Four – the Beginningsthe film for which there were the most expectations, it stopped at 521 million dollarsalways better than Captain America: Brave New Worldwhich closed with a disappointing collection of 415 million. It got even worse Thunderbolts which, despite positive reviews, stopped 382 million dollarsperhaps paying for the presence of secondary characters.

So a first victory, which DC hopes to replicate with the arrival of the film dedicated to Supergirleven if 2026 has much higher expectations for Marvel: in fact, there are the heavyweights of Spider-man Brand New Day e Avengers Doomsdaywhich many believe will bring the box office back to its old glories.
