ROVIGO – An intense water bomb hit the city of Rovigo and its surroundings hard, causing extensive damage and flooding. A tornado spotted north of the city has heightened apprehension among residents, with devastating effects visible across the region.
Hail and powerful winds: the damage toll
The heavy rainfall, accompanied by medium-small sized hail and water, hit the city, particularly the areas between Adria and Cavarzere. The wind reached such a speed that it tore off an industrial warehouse in via Grandi, with pieces of sheet metal flying up to the car park of the Aliper shopping center in viale Porta Adige, causing extensive damage. Glass burst and panels collapsed inside a bar, creating a scene of devastation.
Emergency in industrial districts and movement of the tornado
In addition to the structural damage, further damage was recorded in the industrial districts with heavy objects lifted by the wind and flying as if they were sheets of paper. An exclusive video clearly shows the gravity of the situation. The tornado then moved rapidly towards the hamlets of Boara Polesine, Cantonazzo, Granzette, Lusia and Lendinara. In Cantonazzo, a tree broke when it fell on a car, fortunately without causing injuries.

This morning, a downpour hit the capital heavily around 10.30am, causing further flooding. The Marabin Bridge was closed to traffic; a local police car was positioned at the entrance to prevent the passage of other cars and ensure safety.
