The Carabinieri of the Anti-adulteration and Health Unit of Palermo, with the support of the soldiers of the Mazara del Vallo Company, have concluded a hygienic-sanitary inspection at some commercial activities in the area, leading to the seizure of almost a ton of fish products worth total of approximately 40 thousand euros.
Violations of HACCP self-control standards
During the inspection, it emerged that the goods on sale did not comply with the self-control standards based on the principles of the HACCP system. Furthermore, the implementation of traceability, which is essential to guarantee the safety of the food supply chain, was missing. This shortage poses serious risks to the health of consumers, as traceability allows the path of food products to be followed throughout the entire production, distribution and sales chain.
Administrative sanctions
In addition to the seizure of the fish products, the Carabinieri imposed an administrative fine of 3,500 euros on the legal person responsible for the commercial activity. This measure is aimed at underlining the importance of respecting health and hygiene standards and traceability in food management, to protect public health and guarantee consumer safety.
