Every year, even in Italy, Pride is the manifestation of the pride of all the people who are part of the lgbt+ community. Before, during and after the parade, the community makes its voice heard thanks to a calendar of initiatives that focus on the requests to the institutions against the discrimination that LGBTQIA+ people still suffer in our country today. In some cities, such as Milan for example, a real one is organized Pride Month, with meetings and moments of discussion scattered throughout the metropolitan area, in the month of June. The choice of the period is not accidental. On June 28, 1969, in New York, in protest at the continuous police raids on gay bars in Manhattan, there was what is now remembered as the Stonewall riots: it was the fuse that gave the definitive go-ahead to the movement for lgbt+ civil rights.

data on discrimination
If 2023 was the year in which Ilga Europe (international association for lgbtqia+ rights), in its ranking places Italy in 34th place out of 49 in the ranking of European countries for policies to protect human rights and gender equality lgbt+ people, the data published by the Gay Help Line 800 713 713 unfortunately does not change the picture much: from the over 21 thousand contacts received in 2022 by the support and help service, it emerges that the most affected by violent and discriminatory episodes are trans people, whose reports increase to 14.7% of contacts, especially among young people and adolescents. Of the total managed, 41.6% suffer homotransphobic violence in the family after coming out: 31.6% of the victims are young people between 11 and 26 years of age. In 12.6% of cases homotransphobic violence and discrimination were the cause of social marginalization and housing problems even in the adult age groups (up to 70 years). “In this period of strong social pressure, legislative measures to support LGBT+ people, who still lack protection against discrimination, hatred and violence, are even more urgent” explains in the note Alessandra RossiGay Help Line Coordinator.
